Hollywood’s favorite sister-witches are brewing up something special, and this time it’s not just midnight margaritas. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman — those enchanting Owens sisters who first bewitched audiences back in ’98 — have finally dusted off their spell books for “Practical Magic 2.” And darlings, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
The first glimpses from set have already cast their spell across social media. There’s Kidman, somehow more luminous at 58 than she was during the Clinton administration, sharing screen time with Bullock (who must’ve found some anti-aging potion in that greenhouse of hers). Their reunion clip hit Instagram with the kind of understated elegance that’s pure Nicole: “The witches are back.” Simple, yet somehow exactly right.
But wait — there’s more magic in store.
Those magnificent matriarchs of mischief, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, are returning as Aunt Franny and Aunt Jet. Because let’s be honest — what’s a proper Owens family gathering without the women who taught us that chocolate cake makes a perfectly acceptable breakfast? Their presence alone feels like a warm hug from an old friend who happens to know a few good hexes.
The new blood joining this coven? Absolutely inspired casting. Joey King’s taking on the role of Sally’s daughter (and anyone who’s followed her career knows she’s got the chops for both drama and levity). Then there’s Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, and Xolo Maridueña rounding out the ensemble — proof that this sequel’s got more up its sleeve than just nostalgic parlor tricks.
Producer Denise Di Novi gets it. Really gets it. “There’s a joyousness to that movie,” she noted recently, speaking about the original’s enduring appeal. The focus on sisterhood, family, acceptance — it’s all coming back around, but with fresh eyes and contemporary sensibilities. Having Susanne Bier in the director’s chair (fresh off her Emmy win) alongside original scribe Akiva Goldsman and “Succession” writer Georgia Pritchett? Well, that’s the kind of power trio that could probably conjure up box office gold without breaking a sweat.
Mark your calendars for September 18, 2026. That’s when this particular spell is set to be cast in theaters nationwide. And honestly? In these somewhat turbulent times, perhaps we could all use a reminder to plant lavender for luck and fall in love whenever possible.
The magic, after all, was always practical to begin with.
