  • Music mogul Irv Gotti, co-founder of Murder Inc., dead at 54

Music mogul Irv Gotti, co-founder of Murder Inc., dead at 54

NEW YORK — Music producer and mogul Irv Gotti, who helped propel Ashanti and Ja Rule to prominence and collaborated with the likes of Jennifer Lopez and Kanye West, has died. He was 54.

A cause of death has not yet been confirmed for the Queens-born co-founder of Def Jam imprint Murder Inc. Records, according to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.

Gotti, born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr., in recent years had health issues linked to his diabetes, including multiple strokes. Last year, he remarked that diabetes “starts deteriorating your body.”

Def Jam on Wednesday said it was “deeply saddened at the loss of Irv Gotti,” who “helped pave the way for the next generation of artists and producers, a force that reshaped the soundscape of hip hop and R&B.”

“His creative genius and unwavering dedication to the culture birthed countless hits, defining an era of music that continues to resonate with fans worldwide,” continued the record label. “Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all those who were touched by his work.”

In 1998, the DJ-turned-producer co-founded Murder Inc. with brother Chris Gotti. That year, he worked on Jay-Z’s “Can I Get A…” feat. Amil and Ja Rule, and executive produced DMX’s debut album, “It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot,” as well as the “Belly” soundtrack.

The following year, Gotti lent his name to hits like Lopez and Ja Rule’s “I’m Real (Murder Remix)” as well as the latter’s debut album, “Venni Vetti Vecci.” Later, he’d also work on Ja Rule’s “Always on Time” feat. Ashanti, who Gotti signed in 2001.

Murder Inc., which was later renamed as The Inc., was ousted from Def Jam during a money-laundering probe in the 2000s, for which Gotti and his brother were charged and acquitted in late 2005.

Though not welcome back at Def Jam, The Inc. moved to Universal Motown the following year and signed Vanessa Carlton, whose 2007 “Heroes and Thieves” album was co-produced by Gotti.

In 2013, Gotti retooled the outfit once again, this time as Visionary, before bringing back Murder Inc. in 2013.

Gotti is also known for creating BET’s hip-hop centric “Tales” and producing several songs by West (now known as “Ye”) and working with Fat Joe and Christina Milian.

Gotti is survived by his three children, his mother, two sisters, as well as his brother and Murder Inc. co-founder, Chris.

  • Love Hurts Review

    Love Hurts Review

You just can’t help but root for Ke Huy Quan. The former child star has experienced a career resurgence for the ages with his Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once, and it seems like everyone wants to see his continued (and long-overdue) success. Love Hurts is Quan’s first starring vehicle since the Oscar win, and while I hope it isn’t the last, it’s surely off to a rough start.

Quan plays Marvin Gable, a happy-go-lucky realtor who shows up every day to work with a pep in his step, a smile on his face, and fresh-baked cookies for clients and co-workers alike. However, Marv’s world gets thrown upside down when he receives a mysterious Valentine’s Day card from Rose (Ariana DeBose), a former associate of his.

It turns out Marv was formerly a ruthless hitman for his brother, mob boss Knuckles (Daniel Wu). Rose stole more than $2 million from Knuckles, but due to his feelings for her, he helped her escape by faking her death. Now that she’s resurfaced, Knuckles is on the hunt for the two of them, forcing Marv to tap into his old life in order to save his new one.

On the positive side, the action choreography is great, but that’s a given considering the work by Quan (himself a former stunt coordinator), the John Wick production team 87North, and former stuntman and first-time director Jonathan Eusebio.

There are two great fight scenes in the first few minutes: the first is a tight close-quarters fight against bladed assassin The Raven (Mustafa Shakir); the second is a chaotic two-on-one brawl against goofy hitmen King (Marshawn Lynch) and Otis (André Eriksen) that makes great use of the kitchen setting, like something out of a late-’90s Jackie Chan flick. There’s also a fun shootout that intermixes all four characters in an entertaining way.

The problem is that nearly every other aspect of Love Hurts outside of the action is middling at best and slapdash at worst. Love Hurts is riddled with tired cliché after tired cliché from top to bottom. It relies heavily on expository voice-over from multiple characters, but it comes across more like the writers realized they forgot to flesh out these characters or any sort of tangible plot until post-production.

The comedic beats in Love Hurts mostly rely on the villains’ “quirky” traits à la Tarantino — namely, King and Otis’s discussions on the latter’s marriage troubles and The Raven’s poetry obsession. But aside from a couple of chuckle-worthy line deliveries from Lynch and Shakir, they mostly fall flat. That’s not even getting into how completely bland Knuckles and his right-hand man, Renny Murlo (Cam Gigandet), are, down to the generic “You steal from Knuckles, you die” threat that’s repeated ad nauseam. Wu is an accomplished star in his own right, and it’s disappointing that he’s given absolutely nothing to work with.

Worst of all is Ariana DeBose, who, between this and Kraven the Hunter back-to-back, I’m convinced is in full-on “Oscar slump” territory. While Quan manages to stay afloat due to his “aw shucks” likeability, DeBose spends more time being irritating than intriguing, and the pair’s chemistry is completely inert.

There’s more emotional resonance in a scene between Quan and his Goonies co-star Sean Astin (playing Marv’s boss, Cliff) than there is in any of the attempts at romantic tension between Marv and Rose. She spends most of the movie prodding Marv to become the old him in order to “take his life back,” but it’s never clear what that even means to begin with. It makes sense for her to be tired of hiding, but it doesn’t for Marv, who’s already content and fulfilled with his life to begin with. Even by the end, it’s unclear how his life changed at all.

At best, her comments are meant to signify that Marv should be able to take risks again, but Love Hurts doesn’t even attempt to do that itself, so it just rings hollow. Funnily enough, a romance that develops between The Raven and Marv’s assistant, Ashley, feels more believable than the one at the centre of the story.

Ultimately, Love Hurts does prove that Quan is capable of carrying a film. However, likeability can only go so far if everything around him is as empty as the model homes Marvin sells.

  • Zoe Saldaña Shares Candid Response to ‘Emilia Perez’ Co-Star Controversy

Zoe Saldaña Shares Candid Response to ‘Emilia Perez’ Co-Star Controversy

Emilia Perez has undoubtedly become one of Hollywood’s most talked-about films this year, earning an impressive 13 Oscar nominations. Among the accolades are nominations for its lead actors, Karla Sofia Gascón and Zoe Saldaña. However, Gascón, a veteran actress starring in more than forty films, has recently faced backlash over offensive tweets, prompting Saldana to address the controversy surrounding her co-star’s social media comments.

In a recent interview with Variety for the upcoming episode of the Awards Circuit Podcast, Saldaña, who starred as Rita in Emilia Perez alongside Gascón, expressed her thoughts on the mounting controversy, emphasizing the importance of personal responsibility. In her words,

“I feel like I’ve spoken enough about it. I do not support any negative rhetoric of racism and bigotry towards any group of people. That is what I want to stand for. I’m allowing myself to still experience that joy because we did come together as a team. But we are also individuals who are responsible for everything that we say and everything that we do. I can’t attest to what people do in their private time with their private handles.”

Despite the controversy, Saldana remains optimistic that Emilia Perez will remain unaffected and continue to receive support from the audiences as the Academy Awards approach.

The Spanish actor, who has recently become the first transgender actress to be openly nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, previously wrote several offensive tweets about sensitive topics such as Islam and the late George Floyd. Although these tweets date way back to 2020, they have recently surfaced online after her Oscar nomination, forcing her to delete some tweets after certain users uncovered them.

Jaques Audiard distances himself from Karla Sofía Gascón after past offensive comments.

    Posts

For example, weeks after the death of George Floyd, whom she described as “a martyr hero,” she tweeted the following:

“I truly believe that very few people ever cared about George Floyd, a drug addict and a hustler, but his death has served to highlight once again that there are those who still consider Black people to be monkeys without rights and those who consider the police to be murderers. All wrong. It is no longer a question of racism but social classes that feel threatened by each other.”

In November 2020, Gascón also made some offensive comments against Islam, citing, “Until we ban religions that go against European values and violate human rights, such as Islam, under the protection of freedom of worship, we will not end part of the huge problem we face. Faith manipulates those who cling to faith.”

Karla Sofía Gascón Has Deactivated Her X Account Close

For years, Gascón has been posting displeasing tweets, but she has never been in the spotlight, like when she was nominated for Best Actress for Emilia Perez. Following the recent controversy, the actress deactivated her X account and issued the following statement:

“I’m sorry, but I can no longer allow this campaign of hate and misinformation to affect me and my family, so at their request I am closing my account on X. I have been threatened with death, insulted, abused and harassed to the point of exhaustion. I have a wonderful daughter to protect, whom I love madly and who supports me in everything.”

  • Sharon Osbourne Reveals Ozzy Lost His Ability To Walk

Sharon Osbourne Reveals Ozzy Lost His Ability To Walk

Sharon Osbourne has opened up about the declining health of her husband, Ozzy Osbourne, amid his ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Sharon shared that the singer’s condition has affected his ability to walk, but his voice is “as good as ever.”

It comes as Ozzy Osbourne prepares to take the stage for one last performance, during which the original members of Black Sabbath will reunite for the first time in 20 years.

Sharon revealed that Ozzy’s walking ability has been adversely impacted amid his battle with Parkinson’s disease.

However, the TV personality, who has been Ozzy’s primary caregiver since his diagnosis, noted that his singing voice is “as good as ever.”

Ozzy disclosed he had been diagnosed with the brain disorder in 2020 after suffering a fall the previous year.

Despite his ailing health, he wants to perform one last time for his fans before drawing the curtains on his illustrious rock-and-roll career.

“He’s very happy to be coming back and very emotional about this,” Sharon told The Sun of her husband’s final show.

“Parkinson’s is a progressive disease. It’s not something you can stabilize. It affects different parts of the body, and it’s affected his legs,” she continued. “But his voice is as good as it’s ever been.”

Ozzy also talked about being unable to walk on his Sirius XM radio show, saying, “I have made it to 2025. I can’t walk, but you know what I was thinking over the holidays? For all my complaining, I’m still alive.

“I may be moaning that I can’t walk, but I look down the road, and there’s people that didn’t do half as much as me and didn’t make it,” Ozzy added.

The heavy metal legend took to social media on Wednesday to announce his final gig, revealing that the original members of Black Sabbath would be coming together for the first time in 20 years for the show.

The “Back to the Beginning” charity concert will take place on July 5 at Villa Park in England and will feature a dozen bands, including Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, and Anthrax.

“He’s doing great. He’s doing really great,” Sharon told the BBC about Ozzy’s determination to perform again. “He’s so excited about this, about being with the guys again and all his friends. It’s exciting for everyone.”

Despite Ozzy’s love for performance, Sharon noted that the concert would be his final show.

“Ozzy didn’t have a chance to say goodbye to his friends, to his fans, and he feels there’s been no full stop,” she said. “This is his full stop.”

According to reports, proceeds from the show will be donated to several Parkinson-related charities.

These charities include Cure Parkinson’s, the Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and Acorn Children’s Hospice, a Children’s Hospice supported by Aston Villa.

It appears that Ozzy has perfected the ideal gift for fans as Sharon disclosed that his show would feature a “supergroup,” with stars like Billy Corgan, Slash, Fred Durst, Wolfgang Van Halen, and Tom Morello.

“It’s an endless amount of people,” Sharon said. “They’re going to be doing some Sabbath songs, some Ozzy songs, and they’ll all mix together.”

“Different little groups will be coming on, but they’re all icons,” she added.

While a number of stars would be welcome to attend, one star who would be refused entry is Kanye West after he sampled Black Sabbath’s hit track “Iron Man” without their permission.

“No, not at all,” Sharon said when asked if the “Donda” rapper would be welcome at the gig. “I wouldn’t have him anywhere near. And his wife’s a big old floppy ars-, either. And her sagging t-ts.”

Ozzy was forced to quit touring in early 2023 because of his many health conditions. However, he disclosed that if he got the chance to play one final show, it would be to repay a debt of gratitude he owed to his fans for their support through the years.

“That’s one of the things I’ve been the most fucking pissed off at: I never got the chance to say goodbye or thank you,” he told Rolling Stone UK. “Because my fans are what it’s all about. If I can just do a few gigs… They’ve been loyal to me for f-cking years. They write to me, they know all about my dogs. It’s my extended family really, and they give us the lifestyle we have. For whatever reason, that’s my goal to work to. To do those shows.”

He added: “If I can’t continue doing shows on a regular basis, I just want to be well enough to do one show where I can say, ‘Hi guys, thanks so much for my life.’ That’s what I’m working towards, and if I drop down dead at the end of it, I’ll die a happy man.”

  • The Dangers of Quick Money: Hidden Costs Unveiled

The Dangers of Quick Money: Hidden Costs Unveiled

**The Shimmer of Quick Cash—And The Consequences**

In a world swayed by the magnetic pull of wealth, it’s no surprise that the siren call of quick money holds a potent allure. But beneath the glittering facade of fast fortune—often shrouded in secrecy and shadows—lies a web of consequences that often remain hidden until it’s too late.

    **The Allure of Quick Money**

Why does the prospect of rapid riches entice so many? It’s simple—a promise of instant gratification, a break from the grind, and the freedom to live life unburdened by financial woes. The lure becomes even stronger for those facing dire circumstances, where the promise of easy cash sparkles like a mirage in a desert of opportunity. But, as many who have been ensnared by its charm realize, this pursuit often comes with its own hefty price.

    **Personal Consequences**

The immediate gains of illegal activities can offer a fleeting sense of success, but the personal fallout is often devastating. Legal battles, imprisonment, and the eventual stigma of a criminal record can shatter aspirations and tear families apart. The weight of guilt and the fear of being caught haunt those who venture into this underworld, turning the initial thrill into a chronic stress that erodes mental health over time. The choice to prioritize fast cash over long-term well-being is one that often leads to personal ruin.

    **Societal Impacts and Hidden Costs**

Beyond the individual, the ripple effects of criminal activities stretch far and wide, undermining communities and straining societal resources. Law enforcement, judicial systems, and rehabilitation services bear the brunt of such actions, diverting energy and funds away from community development endeavors. Crime fosters a culture of mistrust and fear, tainting neighborhoods and limiting opportunities for economic growth and social cohesion. The collective impact is significant, yet often overlooked in the rush for personal gain.

    **A Call for Wise Choices**

The allure of quick money might shine brightly, but it casts long, dark shadows. As tempting as the fast track to wealth appears, the hidden costs and lifelong consequences demand careful consideration. It’s a call for individuals to weigh the fleeting joys of immediate financial success against the enduring satisfaction and peace that come from choosing integrity and legal means of achieving wealth.

    **Conclusion**

In the end, the cost of easy money is far more substantial than most anticipate. It’s a reminder that when faced with choices, the path that aligns with legality and personal values may seem slower but ultimately leads to a richer, more fulfilling life. Let each step forward be guided by wisdom, ensuring that the legacy left behind is one of pride and respect rather than regret and despair.
