Only Murders in the Building Lands Another Oscar Winner for Guest Star in Season 5
Hulu’s hit comedy Only Murders in the Building will return with Season 5. Already in production, the new season is staying consistent with its love for famous names.
After flaunting a long list of critically acclaimed actors throughout its first four seasons, that won’t stop for the upcoming fifth season. Only Murders in the Building added yet another Oscar-winning actor to its star-studded cast. Per Variety, two-time Oscar-winning actor Christoph Waltz joined the series in a recurring role.

As usual, Hulu is keeping details for Waltz’s character under wraps. So far, Waltz marks the second big guest star after actor and comedian Keegan-Michael Key joined the cast earlier this month in a recurring role.
Christoph Waltz won two Oscars for Best Supporting Actor, both for his work with critically acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino. The first one was for 2009’s Inglorious Basterds, and the second for 2012’s Django Unchained, which also won him Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards, and more for the same roles. Waltz is not a newcomer to the television scene, also won an Emmy nomination for his work in television for the Quibi series Most Dangerous Game. He also starred on The Consultant on Prime Video.

Only Murders in the Building officially started production on Season 5 in early March. This seems consistent with Season 4, which also started production in March 2024, for a release in late August 2024.
Only Murders in the Building Has Been a Major, Star-Studded Hit
The murder mystery comedy-drama premiered in August 2021 and has become a hit show since. It follows a group of neighbors, Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short), and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez), with a joint passion for true crime, who start investigating crimes in the building where they live, an upscale apartment building called the Arconia in Upper West Side. Season 4 brought a change in scenery, as the Trio ventured to Los Angeles while investigating Sazz Pataki’s (Jane Lynch) murder.
Season 5 will fully keep the story where it started: the Arconia. Executive producer Dan Fogelman and showrunner John Hoffman promise the return of multiple fan-favorite guest stars in Season 5. Tea Leoni made a guest appearance in Season 4’s finale as Sofia Caccimelio, right before the trio found Season 5’s victim: the sweet Lester (Teddy Coluca), Arconia’s doorman, and she is officially set to return in Season 5. The show’s other Oscar-winning star besides Waltz, Meryl Streep, who plays Loretta isn’t yet confirmed for Season 5, but she’s likely to make an appearance.

Only Murders in the Building is famous for its guest stars, and some of them even played themselves, like Sting and Amy Schumer. Season 4 was packed with stars as it headed to Hollywood, and Meryl Streep, Eugene Levy, Zach Galifianakis, Eva Longoria, Jane Lynch, Richard Kind, Melissa McCarthy, Paul Rudd, Kumail Nanjiani, and Molly Shannon were some of the big names, aside from the original trio.
Only Murders in the Building Season 5 doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s likely to premiere later this year on Hulu.
