DCU’s Clayface Gets Exciting Production Update as Horror Director Jumps on Board

James Gunn’s DC Universe has created a lot of anticipation, with the new franchise set to debut this summer with the upcoming Superman. The new superhero franchise will also include Clayface, which has just secured its director.

The movie was confirmed in December 2024, with critically acclaimed filmmaker Mike Flanagan set to write the script but no director. The search for the person who would direct the film continued well into 2025, with two potential horror directors reportedly in the final stages to direct the film, Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare) and James Watkins (Speak No Evil). Per The Hollywood Reporter, Watkins is officially set to direct Clayface.

In a recent THR e-mail newsletter, an insider revealed Wadlow wasn’t in the mix, but Watkins was expected to meet with the DC execs. The reports turned out to be true, and Wakins met with Gunn on Thursday, Feb. 20, for a “final presentation,” which resulted with him scoring the project.

The newsletter also teased what Clayface is about: “Clayface is a Hollywood horror story, using the most popular incarnation of the villain – a B-movie actor who injects himself with a substance to keep himself relevant only to find out that he can reshape his face and form, becoming a walking piece of clay.”

James Watkins has a history with the horror genre, which will come in handy for the upcoming project. He just had a lot of success with 2024’s Speak No Evil, which received positive reviews from the critics and the audience, with an 83% Certified Fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes, and 84% from the audience. He also directed the critically panned Idris Elba film The Take, and Daniel Radcliffe’s 2012 horror film, The Woman in Black, which received mixed reviews.

Clayface reportedly has a budget of $40 million. The Batman director Matt Reeves will produce Clayface, along with Lynn Harris and DC Studios co-CEOs Gunn and Safran. The film has a Sept. 11, 2026 release date.

    Who Is Clayface?

Clayface is an alias that several Batman supervillains used. The character was originally introduced in 1940 in Detective Comics #40 by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. He was described as a “B-list actor who began a life of crime using the identity of a villain that he had portrayed in a horror film.”

Hollywood has also seen several portrayals in the media and appeared in various forms over the years. Brian McManamon played a live-action version in the TV show Gotham, while Lorraine Burroughs played another in the series Pennyworth. Ron Perlman loaned his voice to the character in several projects, with Alan Tudyk voicing Clayface in the animated Harley Quinn and Creature Commandos.

So far, there is no cast attached to the project, but the two DC Studios co-CEOs shared that the actors who voice the characters in DC Studios can play the characters in live-action versions, as well.

Clayface will premiere in theaters on Sept. 11, 2026.

Mental Resilience: Building Strength Through Adversity

In the marathon of life, adversity is a grueling uphill stretch—a test of grit and determination. But here’s the truth: each challenge you stare down and overcome becomes an ally in forging mental resilience. It’s much like a hard-hitting workout session for the soul, where every hurdle strengthens your resolve.

To gear up for these moments, embrace the struggle. View it as the gym session for your mind. Every session—every bit of adversity—not only tests you but also builds your mental strength. This isn’t just about surviving; it’s about thriving.

Cultivate a Growth Mindset. Life’s setbacks are merely setups for a comeback. Transform obstacles into opportunities for growth. Keep learning, keep pushing. When adversity turns its scrutinizing gaze upon you, respond with a determined focus on the lessons it brings.

Mindfulness and Meditation—two tools often underestimated. They anchor you in the present, reducing stress and enhancing emotional balance. It’s like having a mental GPS that keeps you attuned to the moment, preventing a drift into the treacherous waters of anxiety.

Don’t underestimate the power of support. Seek assistance, share your experiences. The community becomes your metaphorical spotter, helping you lift the weight of challenges with newfound perspectives and strength.

Ever hear about setting incremental goals? It’s a strategy that ensures steady progress. Break colossal challenges into bite-sized tasks, and before you know it, momentum gathers like a tidal wave propelling you forward.

Reflection is a potent weapon. Turn back the pages of your past triumphs—those victories are your personal roadmap. Reflect often, for they remind you of your strength and prepare you for future battles.

Finally, never underestimate the link between mental and physical resilience. Maintaining physical health is paramount—exercise isn’t just about the body; it’s a tonic for the mind. It boosts your mood and fuels resilience, making you unstoppable.

In this journey toward mental resilience, remember—each step taken, each challenge faced is a stride toward unyielding strength and unshakeable resolve. Embrace each moment, for it is shaping you into a masterpiece of fortitude.

  • Faith Leaders: Frontline Allies in Health Battles

Faith Leaders: Frontline Allies in Health Battles

The Unsung Heroes: Religious Leaders in Public Health Battles

When global health crises loom large, and societies grapple with uncertainty, religious leaders often step up—taking the reins to guide and reassure their congregations, much like captains steering ships through tempestuous seas. Their impact, though sometimes overshadowed by medical interventions and press briefings, is no less critical. Let’s put their noble efforts under the microscope and understand how these spiritual stalwarts bolster public health efforts.

    More Than Just Sermons

Religious leaders are not mere orators of faith—they are the bedrock of community morale in times of despair. During the COVID-19 pandemic, their roles transcended the spiritual realm as they emerged as frontline warriors, equipped not with syringes but with unwavering faith and a profound influence over their communities. As trust anchors, they amplify public health messages with a resonance that cuts through skepticism—turning whispers of doubt into a chorus of compliance.

Navigating the Storm with Faith and Resilience

Amidst the chaos of epidemics, religious leaders navigate the dual responsibility of preserving their community’s spiritual well-being while ensuring adherence to health protocols. Their sermons morph into strategic discussions—illuminating the path to recovery, much like lighthouses that guide sailors during storms. These leaders adapt and evolve, embracing technology to reach their flock and maintain the cohesion of their spiritual family.

    Harnessing Influence for Public Health

With faith as their compass, religious leaders hold the power to calm turbulent waters and unite communities under a shared mission—safeguarding health. They do not merely echo public health mandates—they embody them. When vaccines are met with reluctance, it’s often the reassuring words of a trusted cleric that catalyze acceptance, turning trepidation into trust. They’ve become pivotal in transforming resistance into resilience—embarking on a mission to protect the collective with a blend of tradition and innovation.

Adaptive Strategies for the Modern World

As the world evolves, so too must its spiritual guides. Religious leaders are increasingly embracing digital platforms—streaming services and virtual gatherings keep the faithful connected even when physical distancing prevails. This digital migration, while born of necessity during the pandemic, has become a testament to their adaptability and commitment to their communities’ well-being.

    The Path Ahead

As we forge onward, these unsung heroes remain vital allies in the fight against public health crises. Their unique ability to reach hearts and minds ensures that health messages are not only heard but felt. The symphony of science and spirituality they orchestrate offers a harmonious solution—uniting the practical with the profound. In the orchestration of public health, religious leaders hold a powerful baton, conducting an ensemble of hope, healing, and harmony in a world that yearns for light beyond the darkness.

  • New Frailty Tool Revolutionizes Elderly Care

New Frailty Tool Revolutionizes Elderly Care

In the bustling corridors of modern healthcare, frailty detection is emerging as a crucial component of elderly care. As our population ages, understanding and identifying frailty—much like unearthing hidden veins of precious metal—becomes imperative. The recent development of an electronic frailty index by researchers at Mass General Brigham underscores this necessity. This innovative tool, akin to a high-tech magnifying glass, scrutinizes electronic health records (EHR) to pinpoint aging-related vulnerabilities in over half a million patients.

Why does this matter? Frailty isn’t just a whisper of old age—it’s a silent saboteur, quietly increasing the risk of falls, hospitalizations, and preventable healthcare costs. By turning this invisible threat into a visible, measurable index, healthcare providers can gear up for a proactive approach, tailoring interventions to bolster resilience and enhance quality of life for the elderly.

Imagine frailty as a creeping shadow on the horizon of health—a shadow that, if caught early, can be mitigated. With the electronic frailty index, that shadow is now put under the microscope. The findings show a stark landscape: among 518,449 individuals aged 60 and above, those deemed “very frail” faced significantly higher rates of death and readmission within a scant 90 days compared to their “robust” counterparts.

This innovative tool—crafted through meticulous cross-system collaboration—represents a beacon of hope for healthcare systems globally. It underscores the potential for digital innovation to transform geriatric care, enhancing not just longevity, but also the quality of those extended years.

By harnessing the power of EHRs, this tool doesn’t just map frailty; it empowers healthcare providers to chart a course towards better outcomes. It’s a call to action for hospitals worldwide to adopt similar technologies, ensuring that the elderly live not just longer, but healthier lives.

As we stand on the brink of a healthcare evolution, the integration of such tools heralds a future where frailty is not just managed, but anticipated and addressed with precision. This is the new frontier in elderly care—one where technology and compassion walk hand in hand, paving the way for a brighter, stronger tomorrow.

  • Parental Resilience: Transforming Adversity into Triumph

Parental Resilience: Transforming Adversity into Triumph

In the face of adversity, parents often become the bold architects of their children’s futures—transforming challenges into opportunities for growth. Recent narratives have shone a spotlight on remarkable examples of parental resilience amid daunting circumstances, underscoring that the journey to parenthood is rarely a straight path.

Consider the story of Vivian, a mother whose journey was marked by a rocky road of personal setbacks, legal hurdles, and the unexpected joy of motherhood. As she navigated the demanding landscape of incarceration while pregnant, Vivian exemplified the tenacity required to nurture a new life in the most trying conditions. Her tale is a testament to the fierce love and determination that defines parental resilience.

Similarly, Leanne Quigley’s experience sheds light on the trials that accompany the joy of bringing new life into the world. Confronted with a partner’s cancer battle and the premature birth of her twins, Leanne’s resolve not only saw her sons through a precarious beginning but also charted a course for a hopeful future through IVF. Her story speaks volumes about the power of perseverance and planning—keys in the toolkit of resilient parents.

These stories—mirroring the struggles of many others—highlight a crucial aspect of parenting: the ability to pivot and adapt when life throws curveballs. Parents are often expected to be the steadfast pillars of support, yet their strength is tested when balancing personal hardships with the needs of their children. It’s a delicate dance that demands ingenuity, support from community networks, and, importantly, self-compassion.

For those navigating similar paths, there are tangible steps to bolster resilience. Seeking community support, whether through online groups or local networks, can provide not only practical advice but also emotional sustenance. Professional counseling can offer strategies to cope with ongoing stressors and enhance mental fortitude. Embracing flexibility in parenting approaches is also vital—what works today might evolve as circumstances change.

Moreover, it’s essential to remember the importance of self-care; recharging one’s emotional and physical batteries is fundamental in maintaining the energy required for effective parenting. This isn’t just about spa days or yoga retreats—it’s about finding small, meaningful ways to nurture oneself amidst the chaos.

While the paths of Vivian and Leanne spotlight the extraordinary resilience required in the face of adversity, they also illuminate the universal truth: that within every challenge lies the potential for transformation and triumph. These parents, like so many others, embody the spirit of perseverance, proving that when it comes to parenting, the capacity to endure and innovate is limitless.

In every story of struggle, there’s an undercurrent of strength—a reminder that, even on the toughest days, resilience can lead the way.

  • The Independent Spirit Awards are today. Here´s everything you need…

The Independent Spirit Awards are today. Here´s everything you need…

Oscar nominees like Mikey Madison, Demi Moore and Sebastian Stan will be making a stop the by beach Saturday for the Film Independent Spirit Awards. The annual awards ceremony is the shaggier, more irreverent sister to the Academy Awards, celebrating the best in independent film and television.

Here´s everything you need to know.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards (sometimes casually referred to as the Indie Spirits) have been celebrating the best in independent film for 40 years. For many years, the show, put on by the nonprofit organization Film Independent, took place the day before the Oscars but it´s recently shifted timing away from that busy weekend.

Awards are voted on by Film Independent Members, a group that includes filmmakers, industry leaders and passionate fans. The awards limit eligibility to productions with budgets of $30 million or less, meaning more expensive productions like “Wicked” and “Dune: Part Two” are not in the running. Television categories were added in 2021.

The Spirit Awards will be held on Saturday in Santa Monica, California, in a tent next to the beach. The show begins at 5 p.m. ET.

The Spirit Awards will be streamed live on IMDb and Film Independent´s YouTube channels.

“Saturday Night Live” alum Aidy Bryant is returning to host for the second year. Last year she referred to the show as the “bisexual Oscars.”

Oscar front-runner “Anora” is one of the most nominated films of the night, as is Jane Schoenbrun´s psychological horror “I Saw the TV Glow.” Both got six nominations, including best feature and best director.

Also nominated for best feature film were RaMell Ross´ adaptation of Colson Whitehead’s “Nickel Boys,” Greg Kwedar´s incarceration drama “Sing Sing” and Coralie Fargeat´s body horror “The Substance.”

Acting categories for the Spirit Awards are gender neutral and include 10 spots each.

Lead actor nominees are: Amy Adams (“Nightbitch”); Colman Domingo (“Sing Sing”); Mikey Madison (“Anora”); Demi Moore (“The Substance”); Sebastian Stan (“The Apprentice”); June Squibb (“Thelma”); Hunter Schafer (“Cuckoo”); Keith Kupferer (“Ghostlight”); Ryan Destiny (“The Fire Inside”); and Justice Smith (“I Saw the TV Glow”).

Supporting acting nominees are: Kieran Culkin (“A Real Pain”); Carol Kane (“Between the Temples”); Clarence Maclin (“Sing Sing”); Adam Pearson (“A Different Man”); Joan Chen (“Dìdi”); Danielle Deadwyler (“The Piano Lesson”); Jack Haven (“I Saw the TV Glow”); Kani Kusruti (“Girls Will Be Girls”); Yura Borisov (“Anora”); and Karren Karagulian (“Anora”).

The Spirit Awards also recognize new fiction and nonfiction television series, where nominees include the Netflix phenomenon “Baby Reindeer,” “Shogun” and “Ren Fair.”

The winners will not have any impact on the Oscars, as the voting window closed earlier this week. Some years, the Spirit Awards significantly overlap with eventual Oscar winners, as in the year of “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” Other times, it doesn´t. Last year´s big awards season champion “Oppenheimer” was too expensive to qualify, and the top Spirit Awards winners were “Past Lives” and “American Fiction.”

  • What does Amazon gaining full control of James Bond mean for the future of the franchise?

What does Amazon gaining full control of James Bond mean for the future of the franchise?

Amazon’s takeover of James Bond sparks big changes for the franchise

Amazon’s takeover of the James Bond franchise has sent shockwaves through the industry, raising big questions about the future of cinema’s most iconic spy.

For decades, 007 has been in the hands of producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, who have fiercely protected the legacy of the films. Now, for the first time, the character’s future is in the hands of a corporate giant.

But what does this mean for the next chapter of James Bond?

The credits of 2021’s No Time to Die ended with a familiar message: “James Bond will return.” But for the past few years, fans have been left in the dark.

Since Amazon’s £6 billion purchase of MGM in 2022, there has been speculation over how much influence the company would have over Bond’s future. Now, it’s official.

Barbara and Michael are stepping back from full control, with Amazon MGM Studios now taking charge of creative decisions for the franchise.

Michael, 81, is retiring from the film side of the business, while Barbara, 63, will focus on other projects.

Speaking about the decision, Michael said: “With my 007 career spanning nearly 60 incredible years, I am stepping back from producing the James Bond films to focus on art and charitable projects. It is time for our trusted partner, Amazon MGM Studios, to lead James Bond into the future.”

Barbara added: “My life has been dedicated to maintaining and building upon the extraordinary legacy that was handed to Michael and me by our father, producer Cubby Broccoli. Now, with Michael retiring from the films, I feel it is time to focus on my other projects.”

The move means Amazon now has the power to expand the James Bond universe in ways never seen before.

With Amazon at the helm, many expect the franchise to branch out beyond the traditional film format.

Franchises like Star Wars and Marvel have grown into sprawling universes with spin-off films and TV series, something James Bond has largely resisted. But now, that could change.

Film historian Lancelot Narayan told BBC Radio 5 Live that the situation mirrors Star Wars when George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012: “They went off and made that sequel trilogy, and whether you like it or not, it got made rather quickly. There wasn’t a three-year wait between films.”

Amazon will likely want a quicker turnaround for Bond content. But will it be at the cost of quality?

Many fans fear Bond could suffer from overexposure, in the same way, some say Marvel and Star Wars have declined due to excessive spin-offs.

A James Bond TV series has been rumoured, and characters like Moneypenny, M, Q, and even classic villains could be given their own backstories.

“Why has nobody made a Moneypenny series?” director Derek Bond asked in an interview. “There’s a great story to be told there. And what about a film on Judi Dench’s M? I’d love to know how she ended up in that role.”

    Others, however, aren’t convinced.

Film critic Griffin Schiller reacted angrily to Amazon’s takeover, writing: “This is quite possibly the WORST thing to happen to this franchise. James Bond was more than your average franchise. It had class, prestige… now? It’ll be milked dry. It’s truly the end.”

For fans, the biggest question remains who will replace Daniel Craig as the next 007?

The role has been vacant since No Time to Die, and while names like Henry Cavill, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Josh O’Connor and Idris Elba have been linked, no decision has been made.

Previously, Barbara insisted that Bond could be any race, but must remain a British male. With her stepping back, will Amazon take a different approach?

Some fans have taken to social media to theorise that this development could lead to the studio trying to modernise Bond further, introducing a younger, more diverse cast to appeal to new audiences. Some have even suggested that Amazon might want to cast an American in the role.

One Bond fan on X (formerly Twitter) wrote: “Is James Bond going to be American…?”. Another added: “What if an American played James Bond.” A third X user added: “We don’t need an American James Bond!”

Others argue that keeping the core of Bond intact will be key to the franchise’s survival.

Industry expert David Zaritsky, who runs The Bond Experience, says Amazon will want to move quickly: “Nobody likes inactivity. And there’s been a lot of inactivity around the James Bond franchise for many years. Amazon as a company will not have patience for that. They’re going to want to do something soon.”

Whether that means an immediate Bond 26 announcement or spin-off projects remains to be seen.

Amazon’s takeover could mark the biggest change in Bond’s history.

While it opens the door for new films, series, and characters, there’s also a risk of over-saturation. The success or failure of this new era will depend on how much Amazon chooses to respect Bond’s legacy.

Will the next Bond film be another big-screen event, or the start of a shared cinematic universe, much like what Marvel Studios did with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Disney did with the Star Wars movies and TV shows.

  • Voletta Wallace, mom of The Notorious B.I.G, dies at 78

Voletta Wallace, mom of The Notorious B.I.G, dies at 78

Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z was accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl along with Sean “Diddy” Combs in 2000.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office announced her death in a press release Friday. Coroner Thomas A. Yanac said Wallace died of natural causes in hospice care at her Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, home.

The Notorious B.I.G., also known as Biggie Smalls, died in 1997 at 24 in a shooting. After her son’s death, Wallace was dedicated to keeping his memory alive through advocacy and activism.

Months prior to Biggie Smalls’ death, West Coast rapper and frequent musical foe Tupac Shakur died in a drive-by shooting in 1996; both shooting deaths remain unsolved. At the 1999 Video Music Awards, Wallace made headlines when she hugged the mom of her son’s rap rival, Afeni Shakur, on stage at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City after being introduced by actor and rapper Will Smith.

In 2020, after her son was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Wallace told Billboard how “proud” she was of her late son.

“Today, I’m feeling great,” Wallace told Billboard in 2020. “As a mother, I’m extremely proud of his accomplishments. You know, I still see such a young man at a young age, and sadly, he’s not here to witness all this. But it’s an astute honor, and as a mother, I’m just elated for that.”

“Many of (Biggie’s songs) speak truth,” she said. “It might be gritty, and maybe the language is so out there, but he was honest. There was nothing fake about what he was doing. I think for such a young man to resonate such honesty in his lyrics is awesome.”

Wallace was portrayed by Oscar-nominated actress Angela Bassett in “Notorious,” the 2009 biographical film about Biggie’s life. The film was produced by Wallace and executive produced by Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Last year, Wallace made headlines when she told Rolling Stone that she wanted to “slap the daylights” out of her son’s former friend and producer Combs, the embattled music mogul who is now facing federal sex crimes charges, before his arrest.

The month before Wallace’s comments, video footage surfaced from 2016 of Diddy kicking, hitting and dragging then-girlfriend Casandra “Cassie” Ventura Fine at a Los Angeles hotel. He later apologized for the assault in a video posted to his Instagram page, talking directly to the camera.

“I’m sick to my stomach,” Wallace told Rolling Stone about Diddy’s legal troubles. “I’m praying for Cassie. I’m praying for his mother. I don’t want to believe the things that I’ve heard, but I’ve seen (the hotel video). I pray that he apologizes to her.”
